The experience
The experience
Small but long by design
We offer a rare opportunity to experience Africa at its fullest in small, curated groups. Life unfolds on Kariega Game Reserve in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. Here days are deliberately slow as you discover every aspect of this unique and dynamic ecosystem. You are guided by experts, have the chance to engage with local communities and visit the Kariega Foundation to understand more about conservation and the protection of fragile habitats and threatened species.
You might start the day on foot, following fresh tracks through the bush, or drifting along the river at sunrise. There are long unhurried game drives, river cruises, coastal explorations, with bush and boma meals shared under the stars. Every moment is expertly guided and designed to help you slow down, notice more and fully immerse yourself in this malaria free corner of the African wild.
Our experiences are designed for up to eight guests per departure. Private groups available
(up to 14 guests) on request. Our set departures are:
29 July to 7 August
22 August to 1 September

DELVE DEEPER
MoreWild days follow the light, the conditions, and the real rhythm of the landscape rather than a rigid schedule. Each day balances field immersion with space to pause, reflect, and absorb.
Here's what you can expect:
- First light: Quiet stakeouts and first movement as the landscape begins to stir.
- Morning: Tracking, ecology, and behind-the-scenes conservation access with guides and specialists.
- Midday: Back to the Homestead for a long table lunch and a proper breather.
- Afternoon: Shaped by conditions, whether that means river or coast, focused field time, or long golden hour sessions.
- Night: – fire, shared stories, stars overhead, and night sessions when conditions allow.

Our signature moments
These are the experiences that anchor a MoreWild journey. They are not guaranteed performances, but opportunities for access, patience, and understanding to come together.
Rhino immersion
Tracking
Discovering biodiversity
While you were sleeping
River safaris
Firelight & the Night Sky
Waterhole vigil
Bush to beach
Expertly guided
Join a rhino monitoring session with the reserve team. Track individuals, learn identification, and understand what protection looks like on the ground. Where conservation priorities genuinely require veterinary intervention during your stay, guests may observe from a safe and respectful position after a full briefing.
This rare, carefully managed access is handled with responsibility and restraint, turning conservation from an abstract idea into something you have seen, experienced, and genuinely understood.
Rhino immersion
A long, on-foot immersion where guests learn to lead the track using wind, spoor, alarm calls, and terrain. This is depth over distance, with time to follow one story properly. The impact lasts well beyond the walk itself, reshaping how you experience every drive that follows. You stop searching for animals and start reading the landscape as a living, connected system.
Tracking
A field walk built around micro stops that reveal plant stories, biodiversity hotspots, and the hidden logic of the ecosystem. Less lecture, more discovery directly from the landscape. By the end of the walk, your awareness shifts. You begin to notice the overlooked layers of the ecosystem and understand how small details shape the whole.
Discovering biodiversity
Check a camera trap route, then later watch the unseen night story of the reserve unfold. What moved through while you slept becomes part of your understanding of place. Seeing what unfolds after dark connects day and night into a single narrative, a reminder that the wild continues long after human activity pauses.
While you were sleeping
A slow cruise focused on birdlife, behaviour, and photography. Time to sit, listen, and observe rather than rush between sightings. The slower pace reveals behaviour and relationships that speed never allows, opening a quieter, richer world within the same landscape.
River safaris
An evening outside with a fire, a storyteller, and a sky you don’t get at home. Short, unhurried, and properly quiet.
Firelight & the Night Sky
A long, unhurried hide-style sit where behaviour unfolds naturally. Fewer kilometres, deeper understanding. With fewer kilometres covered and more time spent watching, safari becomes intimate rather than performative, rooted in patience and attention.
Waterhole vigil
When conditions are right, the journey extends from bush to dunes and ocean edge, ending with a sunset moment that reframes the scale of the place. The contrast expands the journey beyond the vehicle and makes the landscape feel vast, interconnected, and alive.
Bush to beach
Every MoreWild departure is led by seasoned field guides and supported by a rotating circle of specialists, selected according to location and timing. This may include:
- Wildlife veterinarians
- Reserve ecologists or conservation managers
- Biodiversity experts
- Conservation storytellers
- Foundation and community leaders
Featured contributors are confirmed per departure.

EXPLORE KARIEGA HOMESTEAD
At Kariega Homestead on Kariega Wildlife Reserve, immersion begins the moment you arrive and let the land breathe around you. The experience is shaped less by a list of activities and more by the feeling of settling into a landscape that still moves to its own rhythm. Days unfold at a gentler pace. With each activity and experience you listen more closely, noticing the subtleties that only appear when you slow down.
There are opportunities to learn from conservation experts, to join hands-on projects, to photograph moments that happen only because you were patient enough to wait. Everything is created to help tune your senses to a different frequency, drawing you deeper and building a closeness to the planet beneath your feet. This is where connection returns. Where immersion becomes effortless. Where the wilderness is not simply something you visit, but something you feel.
Community, conservation & wilderness
Each MOREWILD experience is carefully designed to leave a positive impact, on the planet beneath your feet and on the people you meet along the way. Tourism in this part of the world contributes directly to community empowerment and upliftment, providing careers for local people and stimulating local economies in the process.
Conservation efforts include local communities to ensure successful outcomes and are part of the fabric of what we do. Wilderness immersion provides the quiet, reflective time that allows transformation to take hold. Time in the bush is not just about observation; it is about understanding, listening, and becoming part of the story of the land. And in the process changing the way you see the world around you.
